Linda H Syvertsen
I started my artistic practice a few years ago and it quickly became the passion of my life. I’m mainly self-taught, besides attending a series of painting and drawing courses in 2014/15. I currently have a studio at Artilleriverkstedet, a newly founded cultural house and studio complex in my hometown, where I work on a daily basis. I paint expressive, intuitive portraits, as well as abstract compositions. I use acrylics and charcoal and sometimes spray-paint on canvas and watercolour paper that i also frame. My driving force is to express myself and the urge to explore different painterly techniques. In my abstract paintings, my aim is to create a surface that can give me a feeling of satisfaction and flow, although it's difficult to explain this process in words as it is very intuitive. My portraits also take an emotion as a starting point, not always consciously. Suddenly along the process, I discover an expression that's mirroring my mood at the time. Through this process, my portraits give me a deeper understanding and a higher self-knowledge. My work is deeply personal and very meaningful to me, and I’m hoping that others who experience my paintings are able to recognize some of those expressions and feelings within themselves as well, as a way to connect. I am a member of Nfuk, a Norwegian union for independent artists.
